MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of West County READS is to promote, support, and encourage efforts to increase children literacy and family literacy in West Contra Costa County. One way this is achieved is by providing free books to the community through events and programs.
WCR encourages all children read or be read to 20 minutes each day!

As per statistics 50.3% of Contra Costa Residents with children experience high levels of poverty.

fewer than 30 percent of West Contra Costa third graders can read at grade level.

In some very low-income neighborhoods, fewer than 10 percent are fully literate. Local schools have embarked on a series of reforms to address these needs in the classroom, but the successful education of our children depends on the help of the entire community
